Borehole Water Filtration treats groundwater for its intended use: drinking, household use, irrigation or livestock. The right system depends on what a laboratory finds in your water. No single filter makes every borehole supply safe to drink.
- Have a recent laboratory report ready, or ask for testing first.
- Say what the water is used for and your daily use.
- Describe problems: staining, smell, scale, cloudiness or taste.

Treatment chosen without a test can miss the real problem. A borehole water test shows bacteria, iron, manganese, hardness, nitrate, fluoride and dissolved salts, and the installer should design around those results.
Treatment Options
| Treatment | Deals with | Does not deal with |
|---|---|---|
| Sediment filter | Sand, silt, rust particles | Dissolved minerals, bacteria |
| Activated carbon | Taste, odour, some chemicals | Iron, hardness, salts |
| UV steriliser | Bacteria and viruses in clear water | Particles, minerals, chemicals |
| Iron and manganese filter | Staining and metallic taste | Bacteria, salts |
| Water softener | Hardness and scale | Bacteria, nitrate |
| Reverse osmosis | Dissolved salts, nitrate, fluoride and more | Not a reliable disinfection step on its own; needs pre-filtration |
Most systems combine several stages, for example sediment, iron removal, carbon and UV for household use.
What Installation Includes
- Filter housings, media vessels or units sized to your flow.
- Bypass and isolation valves.
- Electrical point for UV or control valves.
- Commissioning and a follow-up test.
Usually extra: replacement cartridges, UV lamps, salt, media and annual servicing.
The Process
- Test. Laboratory results and intended use are reviewed.
- Design. Stages and sizes are chosen for your flow.
- Install. The system is fitted, usually after the tank and booster pump.
- Verify. A follow-up test checks whether the treated water meets the target.

Borehole Water Filtration FAQs
Will a filter make my borehole water drinkable?
Only if the system matches the problems the lab found, and a follow-up test confirms it. No single filter suits every borehole.
Do I need UV?
UV is the usual way to deal with bacteria in households. It only works on clear water, so it needs pre-filtration.
Why is my water still orange after filtering?
Sediment and carbon filters do not remove dissolved iron. An iron removal stage is needed.
Is reverse osmosis necessary?
Only where salts, nitrate or fluoride are too high. It wastes some water and needs good pre-filtration.
Can I treat only drinking water?
Yes. A point-of-use system at the kitchen tap is cheaper than whole-house treatment.
